YouthCom is short for "Youth for the Community". It is a yearly social outreach project and leadership camp organized by Kam Him Centre (www.kamhim.org) on summer holidays. Students who join as volunteers go to a local or overseas community where they serve the needy, meet new friends, and learn teamwork. It is also an opportunity for cultural exchange.
This year, the team will go to Shanghai, China, located in the Yangtze River Delta in eastern China.

Shanghai is the largest city by population in China and the largest city proper by population in the world.
It has a significant heavy industry sector, primarily, machinery manufacturing, textiles and steel. The city produces a large percentage of the power generation equipment and ships in China.

China is now experiencing the largest mass migration of people from the countryside to the city in history. Many families from different provinces move to Shanghai to work in the factories. However, they are not always able to bring their children along, leaving them "detained" in the villages with their grandparents or other relatives.

Some of these kids are able to visit their parents in the factories during the summer period (July and August).

Our task is to organize a summer program at Showart factory for the children of these factory workers.
